Tracksuits since its inception to modern day transition

Tracksuits Since its Inception to Modern Day Transition!

Track suit, which started as a leisure wear soon gained popularity in sports. It was initially a three striped pant which slowly transformed to a plain dark coloured loose pants. These are now used specially in the gym, fitness and aerobic centres. It has become a popular sports apparel. There were zipped trouser bottoms and some times with foldings at the bottom.

The year 1970s saw track suits as a fashion apparel. It was made out of nylon fabric with glossy finish. To add style to it, designers gave narrow cuts to the jackets and pants. This soon gave way to boredom in the garment industry and the fashion world. There was a slight transformation in the use of fabric. From nylon, there was a shift to cotton fabric so that it could be used in sports and absorbs sweat. They were seen in lighter shades such as grey, light blue and other dull colours.

For joggers, there were specially designed outfits in order to provide comfort and absorb sweat at the same time. It had a special lining made out of net textile from inside. The external side consisted of  polyster or nylon fabric. These were found in brighter colours to do away with the duller shades. This also made convenient for those who are not good at maintaining their apparel. Since, it is darker shades dirt would not be easily visible.

Branded sports apparel last longer as they are highly durable which will not give in easily if you stretch yourself.

Sweat Pant
Wind pant

While some may prefer buying a whole set of sweat suit for cricket, few others may just want to go for the sweat pants which can be worn with different shades of  t-shirts or tank tees. Wind pants are those pants which have an external nylon fabric with internal cotton lining. These are made out of nylon in order to protect the wearer from mud and water. Besides this, there are special outfits meant for professional cricket players too.

Most tracksuits have a mesh interior which allows the user to wear them without any undergarment such as underwear. This is much like a bathing suit. Many people wear it for workout sessions. Garments must be chosen differently for different season. In hot weather garments should allow the wearer to stay cool. In cold weather garments should help to stay warm. In cold climates the best athletic wear should not only provide warmth but also transfer sweat away from the skin. Wind pants can help resist water and wind. This way, they can be different for varied seasons.

World bowls – a history

World Bowls – a History

Bowls is a sport that is played and followed by millions throughout the world. It is a game of skill and precision rather than physical fitness and has therefore often been associated as a game for the older generation. However, many of the upcoming champions are becoming increasingly younger and the sport has spent recent years making its competitions quicker and more colourful to encourage followers.

Bowls can be played indoors or outdoors, and the rules are the same for both. Put simply, the aim of the game is to get your bowls as close as possible to a small white ball called the ‘jack’.

In the singles competition, one of the two opponents flips a coin and begins a segment of the competition by placing the mat and rolling the jack to the other end of the green to serve as a target. Once it has come to rest, the jack is aligned to the canter of the rink and the players take turns to roll their bowls from the mat towards the jack.

When all the bowls have been played, a competitor or team gets one point for each of their bowls that is closer to the jack than the opponent’s closest bowl.

After all the bowls have been played, the direction is reversed which signals the end of an end.

In group games, the team captain always plays last and has a key role in directing the team’s shots and tactics.

Although it sounds easy, the fact that the bowls are not completely round and do not therefore travel in a straight line, means there is a great level of skill and tactics involved to win a match.

The game of Bowls has a distinctive history, dating all the way back to the Egyptians. Based on artefacts found in tombs dating circa 5,000 B.C, it appears that the Egyptians used to enjoy playing a version of skittles using round stones.

Different versions of this form of game then spread throughout the world and can be seen in the many types of bowls games played today. In Italy the game Bocce developed, which is a precision sport closely related to bowls with a common ancestry from ancient games played in the Roman Empire. In France the famous game of Boules arose from Bowls. This is a game that is played using metal balls, often on unusual and challenging terrain such as sand. The aim of the game is to get your large, heavy balls as close as possible to the small, white ‘jack’.

The traditional game of bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, has particularly developed popularity throughout England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and more recently, Denmark. The oldest recorded bowls green is in Southampton, England, which dates back to 1299.

There are also many famous bowling fans throughout English history. Perhaps one of the most infamous in bowls folklore is Sir Francis Drake who, according to legend, insisted on completing his game of bowls in Plymouth before setting sail to confront the Spanish Armada in 1588.

King Henry VIII and King James I were also said to be keen lawn bowlers and even introduced bowling legislation for their subjects!

In 1903, the English Bowling Association was officially founded and began to organise and direct clubs and competitions. Previously competitions had always taken place but for the first time an extensive league and organised contests sprang up.

Indoor variations of the bowls game also appeared, largely due to the problem of the English winter stopping outdoor play. Indoor Bowls is simply the indoor version of Lawn Bowls, which is played on strips of artificial green a similar length to Lawn Bowls rinks.

All versions of the sport have now grown enormously and there is a wealth of leagues, clubs, amateur and professional bowling leagues and competitions throughout the world.

World Bowls grew out of the Commonwealth Games when it was first held 70 years ago (then known as the Empire Games). It was originally intended that only athletics would form part of the games but bowlers successfully convinced the organisers to have bowling included and it has been played at the games ever since. Top stars from both indoor and outdoor formats now come together to play lawn bowls at the Commonwealth Games.

One of the largest bowling event organisers today, is the World Bowls Tour (WBT) – a limited company formed in September 1996 by the Professional Bowls Association, and the two major governing bodies for world flat green bowls, World Bowls Ltd and the World Indoor Bowls Council (WIBC).

The primary object of WBT is to set up a series of premier bowls events at which the top players in the world can play.

One of the most exciting competitions in the UK World Bowls Tour calendar is the World Indoor Bowls Championships that take place at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton, Norfolk. The event has been hosted at Potters for the last eight years (since 1999) and 2007 will see the event take place there once again for the ninth year running.

As on other previous years, 2007 will see professional players come together from throughout the world, to take part in televised matches including singles, pairs and mixed pairs.

The World Indoor Bowls championships take place at Potters Leisure Resort (more details can be found at pottersholidays.com)

How to select the right kind of shoes for martial arts

How to Select the Right Kind of Shoes For Martial Arts

Every sport has its own demand from a human body. Whether it is the hands that are involved or the feet, it is a requirement that one should use the right kind of accessories while practicing their favorite sport. Thus shoes to play soccer or basketball are different from shoes for martial arts. Since the sports are starkly different, the demands on limbs are also different. Therefore, it is not only recommended but compulsory that proper shoes for martial arts should be used while practicing the same.

The main feature of using shoes for martial arts is that they come without laces and so do not impair movement and thus are prone to fewer accidents caused by entanglement. Also, shoes specially created for martial arts are padded at the right places so that you can use the optimum force in your kicks and thus enhance your art rather than impair it. The soles are also specially designed so that you get a good grip on your feet and enable you to spin on your feet efficiently. Spinning is a part and parcel of martial arts unlike any other sport and thus using shoes for martial arts is an advantage to martial art enthusiasts. Let us check the kinds of shoes available for such enthusiasts:

The Ninjitsu Tabi Boot: This is a very special boot made for the art of practicing the Ninjitsu Tabi and does not even look like footwear. It looks more like a bedroom slipper and is a deceit in itself. It comes with tow-grips inside the boot. This boot is also used to practice Ninjitsu and its allied martial arts. This boot is improvised to enable better and efficient kicking and will give you an edge over other martial art sportsmen.

The Martial Arts KungFu Slipper: Another fine example of shoes for martial arts is the KungFu Slipper. This is a very special form of footwear and helps the practitioner to maintain body temperature during KungFu practice. These shoes also help one to remove excess calories, very useful when one is using martial arts as a fitness regimen. The KungFu Slippers are easy to clean – you could wash them with hand or just toss them into the washer. Made with simple yet strong fabric, these shoes are very comfortable and you could find many people using them as casual wear without understanding their functionality entirely, especially in Asian countries.

Shoes for martial arts are specially designed so that they take the shape of your foot during practice. Many martial arts enthusiasts are also seen practicing bare foot, but this practice could be dangerous and may result in injuries. While bare foot practice benefits better due to strength training and the natural feel, it is only advised after you reach a particular skill level. Shoes for martial arts are highly recommended for beginners and are designed to give better ergonomic comfort and safety to the ones wearing them. Wearing shoes for martial arts is highly recommended for the new and budding martial arts enthusiasts.

Flexibility and your golf game

Flexibility and Your Golf Game

Flexibility exercise for golf is a critical component to performing a repeatable, powerful, and mechanically sound golf swing.  Senior golfers are the prime target to benefit the most from flexibility exercise for golf.  With a declining level of both flexibility and strength, the muscles of the senior golfers are not as pliable and responsive to the physical demands of the golf swing.

The golf swing requires a higher level of flexibility to produce maximum power.  Turning your upper body (shoulders) 90 degrees, while maintaining less than half that with your hip turn takes a tremendous amount of dynamic strength and flexibility.

It always surprises me when I speak to a golfer and really spell it out to them.  I’ll even go through the swing visually and explain and certain points where physical restrictions can ruin your golf swing.  I think the combination of my showing the golfer and explaining it really hits home for them.

It’s tough via an article like this, or any of my websites to get the golfer to understand these physical demands on flexibility (and strength).  I can, and will do my best to always explain it in a way that gives you a good visual.

The sooner you realize flexibility exercise for golf is a necessity, the sooner you will see improvement.  I’ve been fortunate enough to experience total “golf transformations” with the golfers I’ve worked with.

Testing them before they started, on backswing range; follow through range; initial posture set up and restrictions: I’ve seen miraculous results with golfers.  The senior golfers are the ones who see the biggest improvement.  That’s mostly based on their initial level of fitness when they started.

That’s why I always tell golfers I come intact with…”it’s NEVER too late!”  Never!  Everyday that goes by is another day you’ll have wished you would have started.  Don’t let one more day go by.  Get started right away!

Now…to define flexibility exercise for golf you just need to take a look at the golf swing.  Get in your golf posture right now, and bring the swing down into phases.  Imagine taking a club back just a couple of feet.

Where do you feel the tension so far?

If you’re really paying attention to your body, you will feel the back of your legs (hamstrings), your left hip, the back of your left arm, and even your lower back.  This is if you are a right-handed golfer.

Now take it back further.  Where do you feel it now?

You’ll start feeling tension in your right shoulder, your core (from rotating), more in your upper left back muscle and shoulder.

Isn’t it amazing to slow the swing down and realize how restricted you are?  It’s a wake-up call to embark in flexibility exercise for golf right now.

I don’t want to spend 5 more pages going through the entire swing, but hopefully you get the idea of the muscles that need to be stretched regularly to release the tension in your golf swing and improve the power you can produce.

The key now, is to start stretching those ‘golf muscles’ we just talked about.  Get back in your posture, make a partial swing and stop.  Take that position just a little farther and hold for 15 seconds.  You can literally do this throughout the entire swing.  This is called static (holding) stretching.  You will definitely want to incorporate some dynamic (moving) stretching as well.

I hope you new realize the importance of flexibility exercise for golf.

Bikini ready means getting a san diego personal trainer

Bikini Ready Means Getting A San Diego Personal Trainer

OK, youve really done it this time. Youve planned a great pool party to kick off the summer, youve got the barbeque grill ready to go, the guests cant wait, theres just one thing left, youre not ready to show off that bikini ready body of yours! You need to employ a San Diego Personal Trainer immediately to assess your fitness level, determine your goals and recommend the dietary modifications to slim down and tone up as soon as possible.

For each type of goal there is a personal training program for each. In our case, were looking for a general slim down and weight. Although the trainer may recommend a few strength training exercises to assist in the workout and protection from injury, plan on a majority of the workout regimen to be cardiovascular training. In your first consultation and workout, your trainer should assess your current level of fitness and help you set realistic goals and metrics to gauge your progress. A trainer should personalize your workout to achieve your goals as well as give you feedback on how to do an exercise correctly and how to adjust your motion to get the best results and prevent you from becoming injured.

No workout can be successful if it isnt fun and gives you the ability to use different equipment and exercises frequently. One of the top reasons people discontinue their workout regimen is that lack of variety and overall fun. Sometimes this can be due to the fact that the plan is too advanced for your current skill level or fitness level. Although you need to see the results in the abdominals, hips and side areas, only working those areas will not achieve losing the overall fat content. To lost weight you need to incorporate as many muscle groups as you can in order to maximize your fat loss potential. This means that using your legs, the largest muscle groups in your body, need to be involved in a number of your exercises.

Running is one of the best ways to burn the most calories and maintain a healthy weight. Many other activities such as elliptical cross country ski machines combine all the activities of running without the impact that occurs as your body jars the floor or pavement when running. Plan on bringing an iPod or other MP3 player to listen to music or other audio files while exercising. Not only can you enjoy your favorite music or learn more about the topic of your choice, but also it can make the time seem less focused on the exercise and make you more informed.
