A fitbit arrives
A Fitbit Arrives
Surpirse! A Fitbit Arrives
How often do you come home and see a small box you were not expecting. It does not happen to me very often. But this was a real surprise. The box was from Fitbit. Something I ordered back in May of 2008, and it just arrived in December of 2009. I think that is like 19 months.
Back in May of 2008 I ordered this device called a Fitbit. This was back when I was working on a project for a friend and this fitbit is very similar in concept to what he was working on, so I was curious what this little thing did.
Shortly after ordering the Fitbit I got an email saying there were delays and they were not shipping them yet. The new date was August of 2008. August of 2008 came and went and I completly forgot I had ordered the Fitbit.
Through the miracle of editing we jump to December of 2009, December 7th, the Fitbit arrives. I looked through my emails to see when I Actually ordered the thing and I did get an email a few days ago saying it was shipping, but I ignored it as junk.
So the product I ordered back in May of 2008 was delivered in December of 2009. Not sure your opinion, but that is a long time to wait for something you purchase.
But, now on to the product itself. I have had it less than 24 hours so far but…. It is pretty cool. The fitbit does basically what the Body Bug from 24 hour fitness does, except, you do not have to wear it on your arm. You can just clip it on your belt, your pocket, etc.
It charges in an hour to an hour and a half, has a 10 day battery and holds 7 days of information. It will dump it’s information when you get within 15 feet of the base station.
One button and a blue oled display makes it very simple to use. The data it records is uploaded to your personal web portal on their web site. On the web site you can record what you eat, set goals, etc. You can set a daily calorie goal, activity goal, step goal, weight goal and more.
There is more information about your daily fitness than you probably want to know (but should know).
Here is another really cool thing it does. If you wear when you sleep it keeps track of your sleep. It comes with this really soft band you wear and slip it into. I tried it last night like a kid with a new toy. It told me what time I went to bed, that when I finally fell asleep it took me 7 minutes to fall asleep. I was woken up 8 times and even considered active a number of those times.
I know when I sync again at the end of the day I am not going to like what it shows me. I know it takes more than a tiny device to make you fit, trust me I know because I am not even close to anything resembling fit.
If you have been considering something like the Body Bug you should check out this device. For $99 I think it is a great deal. Just open a web browser and go to www.fitbit.com.
