World Firefighters Games An Extraordinary Sporting Event

The World Firefighters Games is an internationally prominent sporting event that was found as an alternative to the World police & fire games. It was setup by an American entrepreneur and a group of international firefighters.

This was started keeping in mind the welfare of all firefighters and not just an individual. Based on this a non-profit organization called World Firefighters Games WA Inc was started which was volunteered by employees and retired staff of the fire force.

To participate in the game, the eligibility criteria are to be a full time employee of industrial and military fire service who is a volunteer with the organization. This included retired firefighters as well as full time employees of a Fire department or brigade. Spouses of eligible participate also could take part in certain event. All participants must be above 18 years of age.

These games promote health and fitness to the volunteers, provides a platform for information exchange between the members, encourages positive relationship between the firefighters and also encourages their family members to participate in the events.

The World Firefighters Games is quite like Olympics but on a much smaller level. It contests a number of events that emphasizes the role of a firefighter, and the critical and urgent nature of his work. This takes place every two years in different parts of the world. This being a non-profit organization, the profits made by the host country is donated to some charitable institutes.

There are a vast range of games that takes place in this event which are common. Besides those, there could be particular events based on the host countrys traditions and probably their national games. The Toughest Firefighter Alive or TFA event is carried out in full firefighting Kit and tests competitors in a number of firefighting related disciplines. It is considered to be the most challenging game.

There are four parts to this TFA competition. One of it is the Hose run. This is performed with full firefighting kit and carrying a breathing apparatus where the competitors are tested in running the hose and also carrying it. Second part of the competition is the obstacle course which is also in full firefighter gear where the participants carry different parts of the equipments while fighting walls and tunnels which are placed before them as obstacles. Tower is the third part in this category where the competitors have to carry the firefighting equipments up using ropes. In the last part of the competition called the stair climb, the competitors climb to the top of the tower, the height of which could be between 100m-200m.

This extraordinary event decides who would be the Toughest Firefighter Alive, and the winner will be crowned with this title, which is indeed an achievement.
