The trials and tribulations of being a sports coach
We have all seen the stresses and problems that our favourite teams manager or coach go through when we watch our team on live television or in the stadium. Sometimes the tension they are feeling is not just about the final result but it is also about their players’ fitness. One thing is for sure though, if anything was to happen to a player, they would be fully insured.
Whatever level you coach or manage at you have to ensure you have the cover required in case anything happens. From the moment you start a training session or step foot on to pitch or court you have a level of responsibility to keep to and the players’ well-being should be high on your priority list.
Some sports are obviously more prone to players receiving injuries. Rugby and Football are two sports were injuries are very common due to the high level of pressure put on the body. Tennis is another sport where there is a lot of pressure put on the knees and shoulders and something can happen in the blink of an eye.
It is not only in competition where a coach must keep his eyes open, in any training session you are probably responsible for some expensive pieces of equipment and if anything was lost, stolen or damaged you would be liable to pay for them. Athletes using these pieces of equipment must also be fully trained on them or be supervised whilst using them to ensure the chances of an accident and injury happening are significantly reduced.
Being a coach requires a considerable amount of dedication and preparation. Each training session needs to push the athletes to a new level to test their skills and abilities, each training session must be meticulously planned and varied to keep the interest of the players alive. All this means you have to be fully insured in case of any injury to a player.
