Arsenal “new boy” could make the difference
The news of Sol Campbell’s return to Arsenal is possibly more worrying for the rest of the Premiership rather than those who have supported the team since the 1-0 to the Arsenal songs stopped at Highbury all those years ago.
A player of this stature could make a real difference to a team that lacks just that little bit of experience at the back, and whilst Campbell has not played at the top level for a while, it is really not that much of an absence to make a huge difference to his experience.
He may not have the pace he used to, and his fitness will obviously need building on, but, if you have a player like him at the back it provides absolute barrel loads of experience leaving the youngsters up front to be confident enough to push on forward.
When Laurent Blanc signed for Manchester United it was thought his pace may be too slow for the battles in the Premiership but United still picked up another two titles with Blanc sitting pretty at the back, and this is exactly what Arsenal need. The fact that he is free is a huge bonus leaving some good cash should Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, feel the need to strenghten in the January transfer window and even in the summer which would seem more likely.
With Sol Campbell having already played at Arsenal, picking up a host of trophies during that time, he has also been training with the squad over the last few months which has obviously shown Wenger that Big Sol still has the hunger to succeed at the highest levels. He will obviously start in the reserves but one should keep an eye out for a player that is certain to make an entry at some stage of the season which could possibly be defining.
With Campbell on his way, the best bookmakers remain uneasy at the moment with no prices on Arsenal changing and one can still back them to win the Premiership title at 5-1 in places.
